What is WebCheck®?

WebCheck is an Internet-based program for conducting fingerprint-based civilian background checks. This program reduces the return time of civilian background checks to as little as several hours when no criminal history record exists.

  • It was developed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI & I)
  • It provides statewide criminal history search.
  • Internet-based System for civilian background checks.
  • It uses the Internet to electronically transfer fingerprints and other data to BCI & I.
  • Data is encrypted and password protected.
  • Results within 2 business days.
  • If there is a criminal history match, results are sent via U.S. mail.
  • No criminal history - results transmitted over the Internet.

In cooperation with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's Office of Child and Youth Protection, the Diocese of Cleveland is seeking to find better ways to respond to allegations of sexual abuse by persons representing the Church and to identify additional ways in which abuse can be prevented.
